WESTERN ISLAND

(Alan Brown)
(Written partly on the Isle of Skye and partly on the Isle of Mull, but not really about either of them)

Western island, watch another day go by and the last light leave the sky to the stars that guide the sailor
Western island, leave the past back on the quay for your own eilean mo chridh
And a western island somewhere in your mind

It’s a journey, it’s a voyage of the heart on a sea without a chart through a storm of new beginnings
Ever drifting at the mercy of the tide, of stubbornness and pride
And a western island somewhere in your mind

Do you believe in an island? Somewhere to shelter from the storm?
A land of ice and fire or a land of heart’s desire for the sailor home from sea and does he look a bit like me?

Western island, watch another day go by and the last light leave the sky to the stars that guide the sailor
Western island, leave the past back on the quay for a lost gradh gheal mo chridh
And a western island somewhere in your mind

(eilean mo chridh - island of my heart; gradh gheal mo chridh - true love of my heart)
